Description
SA Wehrmannschaft Cap. This attractive piece is in overall excellent condition and has an RZM tag inside also being size marked “55” on the interior. The liner shows use but the cap is nice with overall even wear with this being a woodwork find some years back. The SA district patch is on the side and the special SA cockade found on these is at the front. I see one small moth nip that somebody with skill could repair.
The “S.A.-Wehrmannschaft” (S.A.-Defense-troops) were formed in January 1939 to provide pre- and post-military training to all civilian males aged 18 to 65 years old. Originally, standard S.A. uniforms and headgear were worn until the official introduction of a S.A.-Wehrmannschaft uniform in of December 1939. One of the items introduced was a distinctive forage cap, based on the Italian “Bustina” field cap, with a national eagle and swastika sewn to its upper left side and a special SA cockade to its front.
