Description

SA Ground Röhm Dagger by C.G. HAENEL.  This one is all early nickel fittings and has an anodized scabbard as it should.  The piece is SA Group marked on the lower crossguard “Th” for Thuringen.  The Ernst Röhm inscription on the blade has been crudely ground off the blade per orders after the murder of the SA leader.  This SA man ground this blade it would appear himself as it was crudely done giving the dagger a good look as it shows his disdain for the former SA leader.  You will also find some daggers having the blade factory ground with the job neatly done but I really like these pieces where it looked like the owner did it himself.  I have included plenty of pictures of the dagger.  There are some old stain markings on the front of the blade but a good looking dagger with a neat grind on the reverse.

Throughout 1933, Röhm attempted to obtain more power for the SA, which the German Army saw as a growing threat to their position. Hitler came to see Röhm as a potential rival encouraged in this belief by political opponents of Röhm and decided to “eliminate” him. Röhm was executed by the SS in 1934 during the Night of the Long Knives. After this all signs of the former leader of the SA were ordered removed including the dagger inscription.  LH12648
