Description

Large German “Deutsche Reichsbahn” Railroad Eagle by “Wehog”. This eagle measures 28 3/8 by 15 5/8 inches – 72 by 39.7 cm. It was a WW2 bringback by Army veteran Sergeant Rudolpho Venturi who captured it in Rome, Italy in 1944.

It is interesting to note that this is a very rare maker to find for these eagles with these authentic eagles themselves being rare and this maker eagle “Wehog” was used as the basis for copies made in the 1980s. The copies were then sold with a story of them being found in quantity at a railroad yard. However, the copies did not have the raised and machined cones at the reverse and they had two holes drilled through them for easy application as well as some other differences.

The markings on the back of the eagle indicate the metal content. The eagle has an old stress reinforcement at a slight crack area at the neck at the reverse that was caused by the vet trying to remove it by prying it as it has a slight bend from this attempt but this material is not necessarily as the eagle is structurally sound and this piece has fantastic eye appeal ans is a great piece of German War Booty.
