Description

M-43 field jacket in near mint condition with Chinese embroidery in the liner, size 34L, dated 1944 with detachable hood. This example has been embroidered and made into a souvenir of the Marine’s time in China. I have had a few such examples and all are different. This is the first I have had with the embroiderey on the inside. At the top there is a droop-wing Eagle Globe and Anchor USMC emblem (this style EGA has longitude and latitude lines, and is sometimes referred to as the ‘China Marine’ EGA). Below that is a Chinese dragon design with accents and a “blooded” 1st Marine Division insignia. The red / pink border around the division patch is meant to denote combat experience with the division and below that the name “E. Schuettner” and “Tientsin China.” The Marine Corps Detachment in Tientsin began before World War II, in 1938, and continued post-war, in support of the Kuomintang government in their fight against the Japanese and the Maoist communist forces. The embroidery on this piece is superior, even when compared to other personalized China Marine embroidered examples. Near Mint. Circa 1946.  LH4575
