Description
German “Deutsche Reichsbahn” Railroad Train Eagle, by “V”. Nice 24 by 13 1/4 inch – 61 by 34 cm size German “Deutsche Reichsbahn” Railroad Eagle. The maker of this eagle is “V” which is a less encountered marking. This eagle was mounted at one time on a locomotive, passenger car or building although most likely on a locomotive as the 24 inch size was meant for locomotives. The reverse has 4 threaded fittings for attachment, with two still retaining the original nuts and washers, and the bottom one being partially broken off from when the GIs removed the piece from where it sat proudly during the Third Reich Era. I have seen these railroad eagles in about 4 different sizes. The detail on this eagle is crisp and superb. The eagle is correctly marked on the reverse for this maker to indicate the metal content as well as the maker and central railway office in Berlin I have posted plenty of pictures of this example. This is a superb piece that would be the highlight of any collection! These have always been hard to find and have really dried up. (947bc) LH4641
